JUNGLE CLUB
JAG GYM’s preschool alternative program
Preschool is a magical time in a child’s education—one that will help to shape a child’s attitude toward learning and school. We believe that preschool should be a time of exploration, a time of socialization, a time of preparation for future learning, a time to develop good foundations of fitness within a program that seeks to meet the needs of the preschool child and his/her family. That is how Jungle Club came to be.

Unlike a traditional preschool that requires set days and lengthy contracts, our program is designed for families who are seeking greater flexibility in the education of their pre-school child. Students may choose as few as one day per week or as many as five days per week. Additionally, our afternoon Adventurers program allow you to extend you child’s day to 2pm or 3pm with exciting enrichment opportunities such as dance, drama, art, cooking, yoga and gymnastics.

Jungle Club’s philosophy is play based and focuses on social skills, fitness, character development and kindergarten readiness in a developmentally appropriate environment. The Jungle Club curriculum is interesting and educational. Monthly themes and weekly units keep our learning interesting and relevant. . Our curriculum is guided and shaped by our experienced staff of early childhood educators, standards of developmentally appropriate practice and National Association for the Education of Young Children. JAG GYM owner Anne Josephson, holds her Masters’ Degree in Educational Psychology and oversees the curriculum and lesson planning for Jungle Club.

Some other tips about "preparing for preschool" for the first time:
  • Play disappearing/reappearing games such as hide-and-seek to help her understand that while things and people may go away, they come back. Emphasize the message that "Mommy may go away, but Mommy always comes back."

  • Let your child bring a lovey-a blanket, doll, or stuffed animal-that gives her comfort and is a connection to home. She/he can cuddle this little piece of "home" on those inevitable tough days.

  • Plan some brief and then incrementally longer separations from your child so that he/she learns he/she can be safe and well cared for by loving adults other than you. This is especially important if your child hasn't spent much time with other caregivers until now

  • Most important: Don't be tempted to sneak out of the classroom without saying good-bye, hoping that it will ease the transition. Your child experiences this as a breach of trust. Sneaking out also sends the message that you feel you're doing something wrong by leaving her/him. Instead, give your child the clear message that he/she willl be fine, and that you look forward to seeing him/her when you come back
